I understand that our symptoms and struggles – such as anxiety and feeling like your head will explode with thoughts, TMJ dysfunction, chronic neck pain, issues with digestion, and more – are trying to communicate important insights with us. Together, we can learn to listen to and truly understand the roots of these symptoms, empowering you to live a life that feels whole and honest for you.
Hearing the messages beneath the overwhelm, should’s, and discomfort can be challenging. In therapy, you can learn not only how to hear your truths beneath the noise of pressure, but also how to express your needs and desires.
While I have always been interested in learning about the human experience and increasing compassion in our world, it wasn’t until I had to face the struggles I experienced in childhood and early adulthood that I began to cherish the importance of safe connections. I see these safe connections as necessary within our own bodies, in our relationships, and in how we move through the societal systems.
When I committed to listening to, integrating, and healing the traumas that I have experienced, I was led into:
• the wisdom of the body and somatic experience
• the nervous system
• the intersection of physical and emotional anatomies
• yoga for trauma and as a therapeutic support
• attachment styles and strategies
• inner child work
• dream work
• and social work.
As a lifelong learner, infinitely curious about the world, I continue to study in all of these disciplines. My foundational education includes a master’s degree from the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Social Work, a B.A. from Davidson College, and certified training at the Asheville Yoga Center as well as the Asheville School of Massage & Yoga.
I blend my understanding of mind, body, and emotions in therapy sessions. I have found that honoring the whole person in this way fosters the ability to hear oneself beneath the noise of the outside world, the pain of trauma and PTSD, and the inevitable internalization of messages from oppressive systems.
If you are interested in feeling more whole, like your true self, through a somatic approach to therapy, I hope you will reach out. The journey of therapy is a courageous path to take, and I appreciate you reading my bio and being curious about working together. You don’t have to do this work alone. Let’s arrange a conversation and see if we would be a good fit for working together.
